Jan Komárek
Jan is a D.Phil. candidate at the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford (Somerville College) and currently works as a legal secretary to the President of the Czech Constitutional Court and legal advisor at the Court's Analytical Department. He is also Invited Fellow at the Tilburg Institute of Comparative and Transnational Law (TICOM). In September 2010 he will become a lecturer at the London School of Economics and Political Science in its European Institute and Department of Law.
Jan holds degrees from Charles University in Prague, Stockholm University and University of Oxford. His doctoral research, conducted under Professor Stephen Weatherill's supervision, concerns the role of judicial precedent in EU law. Jan's work appeared in Oxford Journal of Legal Studies, Common Market Law Review or European Law Review, he also occasionally publishes in Czech newspapers and magazines on topics related to constitutional law and politics. Jan is interested in EU law in general, US constitutional law, judicial process and some aspects of legal argumentation.
In his previous life Jan won two bronze medals at the University World Championships in Flat Water Canoeing (1998) and was several times junior champion of the Czech Republic, won several medals at senior Czech Republic Championships and represented the Czech Republic at various international competitions. He likes sport, particularly running and skiing.
